What a thrill as the fall art season begins! Granted, we're still immersed in sizzling September in LA, but at least there are new and vibrant art exhibitions to explore this week. Check out a little cluster on Melrose Hill with openings at David Zwirner and Marian Goodman. Next week gets even more enticing when the Getty's PST (Art & Science Collide Pacific Standard Time) get going. More than 70 exhibitions from museums and other institutions across the region, all exploring the intersections of art and science, past, present, and future. More on this next week. Curated by Hilton Als, this exhibition continues the gallery’s history of curated exhibitions focusing on different facets of Neel’s ever-relevant work. One of the foremost artists of the 20th century, Neel (1900–1984) is known for her daringly honest and humanist approach to the figure.

An immersive video, sound and light installation, involving two seemingly disparate art forms united as condensations of time, the exhibition embraces the past and the future in fresco painting and computer-generated imagery.

A series by the LA-based artist incorporating sculptural concerns and moving away from traditional supports such as canvas and linen, in favor of expanding urethane foam, felt and Astroturf, among other unconventional materials. Here, every piece is a product, in part, of generative AI.

Mezzanine presents a screening of Claire Denis’s third feature from 1990, No Fear No Die. Long unavailable in the U.S., the film is a visceral noir that intimately explores the effects of colonialism, belonging and violence in the lives of two black immigrants from Benin and Martinique.
