Rirkrit Tiravanija: No More Reality
September 16—October 28, 2023
Opening Reception: Saturday, September 16, 2023 | 3–5pm
In August 2020, Tiravanija collected American newspapers still published daily – the source material for this show, which references the 1991-93 series by Philippe Parreno. On the main floor, an expansive floor-to-ceiling installation focuses on the phrase in large painted text. In the upstairs gallery, the phrase is reduced to a single text, as in the front and back page of the newspaper.

Bahia Reverb: Artists and Place

Co-presented by Art+Practice and the California African American Museum (CAAM), this exhibition presents the work of ten former fellows of the Sacatar Institute in Bahia, Brazil, who reflect on how Bahia, an epicenter of the African diaspora, has fueled their work. Artists include Gerald Cyrus, Juan Erman Gonzalez, Mark Steven Greenfield, Karen Hampton, Rik Freeman, Francis Tre Lawrence, Germaine Ingram, Sandra Brewster, Precious Lovell and Tim Whiten.

Abel Guzmán: serás más macho

A painter by training, Guzmán turns to drawing and sculpture to address the influence of gender on family, identity and sexuality in his critique of the machismo culture of his upbringing. The phrase “serás más macho” rejects perceived effeminacy or weakness while challenging the individual to prove his grit through showing so-called manliness.

Old Hollywood meets contemporary style at the Academy's restaurant / café. A variety of dining venues at the Getty Center offer different menus depending on your taste and time of day. More elaborate dining at The Restaurant involves a full menu for brunch, lunch and dinner.
