A Day in LA

Summer Wine Tastings Friday Nights at Barnsdall Art Park

Barnsdall Art Park

Last week we went on an excursion with kids. This week is geared to a fun outing for the 21+ crowd.

Barnsdall Art Park is a city park in the heart of Hollywood, offering a variety of arts and educational programs – as well as wine tastings throughout the summer on a grassy hilltop with spectacular views of the city!

The venue is also an historical cultural hub. While you're visiting, take a tour of Hollyhock House. Completed in 1921, the property is one of eight seminal Frank Lloyd Wright buildings recognized with a UNESCO first modern architecture designation in the US.

Art lovers will enjoy the ambitious programming of the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG) also on site. Since the 1950s, LAMAG has focused on exhibiting the work of emerging and underrepresented artists. Over the years, the spacious gallery has also featured the work of numerous luminaries, including Barbara Kruger, John Baldessari, Mark Bradford, Kerry James Marshall and many others. Currently on view, COLA 2024, an exhibition of new work by five LA-based female artists, featuring installations of ceramics, sculpture, photography, video, painting and drawing.

Friday nights through August, Barnsdall Art Park Foundation is hosting Summer Wine Tastings – an important fundraiser for Barnsdall Art Park programs. Each wine tasting event is hosted by a different winery with food trucks and dessert offerings to make the event even more tasty. DJs play tunes to add to the overall good vibes. Wine tastings sell out fast, so get your tickets in advance. Tickets range from $15 to $70 (food and tour not included).

There's a lot more to explore at this important LA arts oasis. Check out the theatre programs at the Gallery Theatre, art classes in the Barnsdall Art Center and numerous festivals during the year that celebrate the culturally diverse community of LA.
