LA Insider | Week of February 22, 2024: Magnificent Darkness, Wow, Synth Jam, Late Night Bites & River Walk

It's the thick of Winter art season — not to mention rainy season — and we're most enthralled by the superb calibre of exhibitions being presented by a cluster of top notch recently opened galleries on and near Western Avenue in Hollywood. We've been highlighting these venues regularly for the last few months and two are mentioned below. Also check out some cool films, music events and the first in our round-up of late night LA eateries!

A far-reaching immersive exhibition comprising several new bodies of work across six diverse and site-specific environments, featuring ceramic, bronze, marble, hair, neon, sound and painting, in a visual allegory toward the overarching exploration of light and darkness.

Exhibition walkthrough with Paul Schimmel | 5–6pm
An exhibition of drawings by Dorothy Hood (b. 1918 Bryan, TX; d. 2000, Houston, TX) organized by Paul Schimmel. In her spiritual, symbolic and regenerative work the artist addressed the themes of human pain and loneliness.

Simone Gad: Vertigo
Through April 6, 2024
The first exhibition of the artist's work since her death in 2021 consists of paintings and collage works from 2007 to 2021. Best known for her collaged drawings, Gad’s playful, brutal and sexual pieces oscillate between trauma and eroticism.

Nicholas Bono Kennedy: Sunset Nursery

Through an interplay of imagery, setting and the influence of light and shadow, the artist explores the inherent balance of creation and destruction in our environment, prompting viewers to reflect on the consequences of human intervention in nature.

Thai Town eatery with noodles and more to satisfy your late night cravings. Nightly until 2am!

Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles | Hollywood
The OG Hollywood spot with the signature chicken and waffles dish that can be eaten almost any time of day – or night! Other tasty Soulfood dishes also on the menu. Until midnight on weekdays / 4am Friday and Saturday. (Check satellite locations for posted hours)

Dan Sung Sa | Macarthur Park / Los Angeles
Korean dive bar offering a varied menu of skewers, wings, savory pancakes and more to pair with your Korean lager. Nightly until 2am

Often booked for location shoots (for TV shows like Mad Men) this Koreatown bar is a fave for its fried chicken, cocktails and distinctive décor.

More of a cocktail bar, the main event is the classic sandwich – pork, roast beef, turkey, braised lamb or pastrami dip – at this 100+ year old DTLA establishment – open nightly until 2am
