Imprinting in Time: Chinese Printmaking at the Beginning of A New Era
August 11—November 12, 2023
Curated by Danielle Shang, this survey of printmaking by Chinese artists from the 1980s to the present examines the unique narrative of the medium within the contexts of cultural, academic, sociopolitical and economic changes in recent Chinese history. Organized in three sections: (Modern Woodcut Movement, the Post Mao Era and Crisis and Hope Since the 1990s) the exhibition features 60 works from the museum’s permanent collection.

The first in the series, Food & Film: Farming, co-presented with the UCLA Film & Television Archive, Marcel Pagnol's 1937 film, Harvest is set in agrarian France. A character from the director's 1938 film César inspired the name of Chez Panisse. Hence the pre-screening Q&A with chefs Alice Waters and David Tanis and farmer Alex Weiser, moderated by L.A. Times food editor Laurie Ochoa. Free admission on a first-come first-served basis.
